An Innovative and Smart Product

INGU’s Pipers® solution employs innovative microsensor technology and advanced data analytics to deliver crucial information for optimizing pipeline integrity monitoring programs. The free-floating Pipers® provide oil, gas, and water operators with insights into the condition of pipe walls, sediment buildup, and leaks across all pipelines, regardless of location, condition, materials, or configuration. This is achieved without downtime and through a self-serve model. Headquartered in Calgary, Canada, INGU is the inline inspection partner for many of the world’s leading oil and gas companies.

Collaboration Between INGU and PEZY

In 2012, INGU partnered with PEZY. At that time, INGU faced a significant challenge: they wanted to develop and launch an entirely new type of product. This required extensive research into the possibilities for a robust plastic housing and its integration with compact electronics and sensors. They sought a company with an innovative spirit and extensive experience in product development and plastics. They chose PEZY.

Product development

The Pipers® housing needed to withstand extreme conditions in terms of pressure, temperature, and chemical resistance. Additionally, it had to be as lightweight as possible to allow for buoyancy experiments with weights. The limited internal space of the housing had to accommodate delicate electronics and sensors that could be read out effectively.

Based on these requirements, a material selection process was conducted. PEZY characterized the chosen materials, and the resulting data was used to simulate the severe conditions of pressure and temperature. These simulations led to a design that was quickly transformed into fully functional molds and products at PEZY’s in-house mold-making and injection molding facilities. To validate that the measurements and simulations aligned with real-world conditions, the housings were tested under extreme conditions in a pressure vessel. Following the successful completion of these tests, production of the housings commenced.

“During our collaboration, it became evident that PEZY is one of the few companies with the specific expertise required to develop a product that meets the stringent requirements we have for our housing. As our production volume increased, we considered looking for an alternative in Canada, but PEZY remained the best choice.

Their specialized knowledge ensures that we are well-informed of all potential risks, allowing us to avoid surprises. Moreover, they always think along with us. Every time we try to expand the application range of the Pipers®, PEZY comes up with a solution. In short, their highly skilled team has consistently supported our product development. For us, PEZY is a very competent and reliable partner to work with.”
