Plastic with a premium ‘glass-look’
Philips Domestic Appliances, a part of Philips Netherlands, faced a challenge: can you create a product initially designed in glass using plastic, achieving optimal durability, weight, and cost, while developing a high-end consumer product?
Our solution: a design made from PET plastic, as thick-walled as glass. With PET material, it is possible to create highly shock-resistant products at low costs. This technique had never been applied to thick-walled products (like glass) with high aesthetic requirements.
Out of the box solution
Within a month, we developed the first prototypes by innovatively applying an existing production process to prove it was possible. Suitable for mass production, lightweight, and safe for transport.
